The term of course means coding from your home for either an employer you were working onsite for and now they are offering you the benefit of coding from home.
It could also mean you are a contractor who has a business either Medical Billing or Medical Coding and you offer your services to Physicians, or other providers or attorney offices even Insurance companies.
Then there are the Medical Coding Companies who hire certified medical coders with experience to code for them for their clients. For this you can be an employee or a contractor for them.
As an employee, they pay your taxes just as was done when you worked on site. Some of the companies offer benefits, supply you with a computer, coding books and/or coding software and pay for your CEU's and your membership to AHIMA or AAPC.
As a contractor, you get NO benefits, they do not take taxes out, and they most likely will not provide a computer, books, or any CEU's, or your membership dues.
If you are like most people who want to code from home, you are still very interested and want to know "Where do I sign up? How do I find the companies who are hiring?"
